Brand
How to write OSCR's name, use its logo and badge, and link to it — for an article, a slide, a README or a poster.
The name
- OSCR
- The short name, written exactly so, letter for letter: the masthead, the badge, a sentence after the first mention.

- The long form, for a title or where the short one would not be understood.

- At the first mention in a text: the short name, then the long one in brackets.
It is a proper name: no article before it ("OSCR records…", not "the OSCR"), not translated, not abbreviated otherwise. Refer to it as "the registry" in running text.
The logo
The logo is the name as a wordmark, in a serif face and the logo's blue. It is the operator's own work, and the site uses it in two versions: blue on light grounds, white on the masthead's dark colour.

Clear space and minimum size
- Clear space: keep around the wordmark, on every side, an empty margin at least half its height — no text, edge or other logo inside it.
- Minimum size: 80 pixels wide on a screen, 20 millimetres wide in print. Smaller, use the square icon, or the name in text.
- The square icons carry their own margin: use them whole.
What not to do
- Do not change its colours beyond the two versions, add a gradient, a shadow, an outline or any effect.
- Do not stretch, squeeze, slant or rotate it; resize it only with its proportions.
- Do not set it again in another typeface, nor rearrange, add to or take from its letters.
- Do not put the blue wordmark on a dark or busy ground, nor the white one on a light ground.
- Do not place it inside a shape, a badge or a pill of your own.
- Do not use it to suggest that OSCR endorses, certifies or is affiliated with a product, a paper or a person.

The site's statuses are said in words, with two tones only: green (#1A6B1A) for what is verified, brown (#8A5A00) for what is wrong or unconfirmed.
Typography
The wordmark is drawn in a serif face; it is an image, not a font to reproduce. The site's text uses the reader's system sans-serif (Lucida Grande, Helvetica Neue, Helvetica, Arial), and its code a monospaced face (Menlo, Consolas, DejaVu Sans Mono): no web font is downloaded.
The badge
/badge.svg is one image for every paper, a flat rectangle — never a rounded pill — with the platform's name and "paper ↔ code". It belongs in the README of a paper's code, linked to that paper's page on OSCR:

Use it only for a paper OSCR lists, linked to that paper's page; do not change its image or words. A paper's authors and its code's maintainers find the three snippets ready on its page (the badge's guide).
Citing and linking
- Link to the home page, https://openscicode.org/, or to a paper's page,
https://openscicode.org/paper/<identifier>/, whose address does not change. - Cite the registry, a record, a map or a dataset as the citation policy says.
- In a slide or a poster, the wordmark and the address together are enough.
Permission to use
You may use the name and these files, unchanged, to refer to OSCR: to link to it, cite it, write or speak about it, or show that a paper's code is listed there. Any other use — a product's name, merchandise, a modified logo — needs the operator's permission. The registry's software is under the Apache-2.0 licence, which grants no right to its name or logo.
